▶ Introduction

Since its establishment in June 1990, the Taiwan Fluid Power Association (TFPA) has remained committed to its role as a nonprofit, professional and public-interest industry organisation.

The Association serves as an important bridge between the fluid power industry and government agencies. It coordinates industry perspectives, builds consensus among member companies and advocates for greater policy support and resources to advance the development and upgrading of Taiwan’s fluid power industry.

Looking ahead, TFPA will continue to promote industry services and association initiatives with the support and participation of its members. The Association remains committed to strengthening industrial competitiveness, encouraging technological advancement and supporting the sustainable development of Taiwan’s fluid power sector.

▶ History

Before TFPA was established, companies in the sector participated in the Fluid Machinery Committee under the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry.

In 1987, a group of industry leaders formed the Taiwan Hydraulic and Pneumatic Machinery Manufacturers Fellowship Association. This became the first organisation in Taiwan dedicated to the fluid power industry.

As the fellowship association was not a formally registered industrial organisation, industry representatives jointly applied to the Ministry of the Interior to establish an official industry association.

In July 1989, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Economic Affairs amended the Industrial and Mining Organisation Classification Standards to introduce “Hydraulic and Pneumatic Machinery Manufacturing” as an official industry category. An organising committee was subsequently established, and the Association held its inaugural general meeting on 22 June 1990. The registration process was then completed with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior.

To respond to the industry’s evolving development, the Association resolved at its Third General Meeting of the Fourth Term on 15 June 2001 to change its Chinese name to the Taiwan Area Fluid Power Association.

On 24 October 2001, the Ministry of the Interior, together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, amended the Industrial and Mining Organisation Classification Standards. The industry category was renamed from “Hydraulic and Pneumatic Machinery Manufacturing” to “Fluid Power,” with its scope defined as:

Industries engaged in or providing the design, manufacture, assembly and maintenance of equipment, systems and components for hydraulic transmission and control—including oil and water hydraulics—and pneumatic transmission and control—including compressed air and vacuum systems.

The Association officially adopted the new Chinese name on 1 January 2002, while its English name became the Taiwan Fluid Power Association, abbreviated as TFPA.

On 27 July 2023, the Association updated its Chinese name once again to its current form. TFPA continues to represent Taiwan’s fluid power industry and promote industrial exchange, technological advancement, international cooperation and global market development.

The Taiwan Fluid Power Association was established on 22 June 1990. Over the following twenty-five years, generations of industry leaders contributed to the steady development of the Association, establishing a well-structured organisation, expanding its services and earning recognition throughout the fluid power industry.

Despite this progress, the Association did not have permanent premises of its own. Members of the industry therefore raised the proposal on several occasions to secure funding and acquire a permanent office for the Association.

On 5 June 2014, the Second Board Meeting of the Ninth Term approved the proposal entitled “A Permanent Office—A Home for the Association.” This decision formally launched the plan to acquire premises in the Greater Taipei area.

On 28 August 2014, the Third Board Meeting of the Ninth Term approved the recognition guidelines for fundraising contributions made by directors and supervisors. A dedicated Office Acquisition Task Force was also established to oversee site selection and related preparations.

Following an extensive review and on-site inspection, the task force selected the premises located at 25F.-5, No. 97, Sec. 1, Xintai 5th Road, Xizhi District, New Taipei City, on 30 November 2014.

The property has a registered area of 99 ping, with a main floor area of more than 60 ping, as well as two parking spaces. The total purchase price was NT$41 million.

The acquisition was approved at the Second General Meeting of the Ninth Term on 26 March 2015. Following approval by the Ministry of the Interior, the Association completed the purchase and fulfilled its long-standing aspiration to establish a permanent home.

Throughout the planning, site selection and fundraising process, TFPA’s directors, supervisors and industry leaders responded with remarkable generosity. More than NT$31.77 million was raised within a short period, providing essential support for the successful acquisition of the Taipei office. Their dedication and contributions to the Association and the industry are deeply appreciated.

To commemorate the inauguration of the Taipei office and ensure that the history of its acquisition would be remembered by future generations, the Association recorded the story in a commemorative stone inscription, together with the names of its donors.

Building an organisation is a demanding undertaking, and sustaining its achievements requires equal dedication. We must continue to advance the industry and uphold the honour of the Association so that we remain worthy of the original aspirations of the industry leaders who founded it.

This record is respectfully presented in commemoration of the occasion.
